Planted in 1894 by German settlers, the vineyard on the North Para River was named ‘Elderton’ after being purchased by Samuel Elderton Tolley in 1916. The estate thrived until it fell into disrepair around 1975. In 1980, Lorraine and Neil Ashmead took on the challenge, restoring the derelict vineyard and its 72 acres of old vines after a generous offer to include them with the purchase of the homestead.
Elderton Winery has achieved remarkable acclaim, winning the prestigious 5-Star Halliday Wine Companion award and the Top People’s Choice Award from Halliday. It has also been recognized in the Excellent Category of the Langton’s Classification of Australian Wine. Adding to its accolades, Elderton has secured a spot among the Top 100 Wineries in the World, reflecting its exceptional quality and global reputation.
